Margaret H. Rollins Child Development Center
An unparalleled program in a classroom like no other.
Children ages 3 to 5 with communicative delays learn and play in a language-rich environment alongside their typically developing peers, developing skills necessary for success in kindergarten and elementary school.
Children’s Beach House takes a holistic approach to nurturing children in partnership with their families. Our students explore the world from a strong foundation of safety, inclusivity, and curiosity that takes them beyond the walls of the classroom.
Indoor and Outdoor Learning
Play and learning extend beyond the indoor classrooms and onto the property’s beachfront, activity field, outdoor classroom, playground, and gardens.
Inside, “choice” centers incorporate games and interactive activities that strengthen foundational skills in social-emotional development, math, language and literacy, science, dramatic and creative play, and fine and gross motor development.
Special seasonal activities include soccer, bike days, sprinkler activities and water play, as well as time at the bay.
Education through Play
Our program emphasizes play, hands-on experiences, and a love of learning by establishing a balance of child-guided and teacher-guided experiences.
Children are encouraged to explore new skills and content at their own pace, allowing them to build confidence and experience the joy of discovery by pursuing their inherent curiosity. Play is also the natural laboratory for early cooperation, conflict resolution, and social skills.
Our teachers know our students as individuals, meeting them where they are, guiding them in their next steps, and kindling in them a lifelong passion for learning, collaboration, and creativity.
School-to-Home Connection
Open communication and a spirit of cooperation are foundational to a healthy and harmonious school-home relationship. Teachers regularly solicit and share feedback about a child’s goals and achievements.
The Rollins center also supports children and families by fostering engagement through volunteer opportunities, parent workshops and events, the coordination of any related services, and the facilitation of a smooth transition to kindergarten.
One Student’s Story
When Asher's family moved to Delaware, they struggled to find services and schools that would support his delayed expressive language. Driving regularly back and forth across state lines for his therapy, the family wondered if Delaware was a place they could ever feel at home.
Their hopes for Asher rose when they found out about the Margaret H. Rollins Child Development Center. In our low student-teacher ratios, Asher benefits from socialization with his peers and individualized attention from our staff. His parents describe his increased confidence in expressing himself and connecting with everyone around him.
Words can't capture the profound joy of a child finding their voice and their place in the world.
